"What we expected to achieve was never realistic given the timetable or what unfolded on the ground. We are in a process of absorbing the factors of the situation we're in and shedding the unreality that dominated at the beginning."
Someone finally, finally admits that this war was one huge, ginormously colossal fuck up.
LET'S RECAP:
• No link to 9/11
• No link to al-Qaeda
• People responsible for 9/11? Still free.
• No Weapons of Mass Destruction™
• No chemical plants
• No "Shock and Awe™"
• No oil
• 15000 - 42500 estimated dead (combined)
• $187,396,XXX,XXX in war debt
• No solid "new democracy"
• No reduction in local terrorism and/or extremist movements in Iraq
• WAR ON TERROR™ now Struggle Against Violent Extremism™!
• President is currently on vacation... during wartime
• Liberals and "The Radical Far Left" are still "lying bastards" that "don't know what they are talking about"
It's a good thing they didn't listen to us three years ago. I mean, it's not like we really needed those innocent lives that were taken in a war that shouldn't have been.
Here's my favourite part. Seriously? It doesn't get any better than this:
"We set out to establish a democracy, but we're slowly realizing we will have some form of Islamic republic," said another U.S. official familiar with policymaking from the beginning, who like some others interviewed would speak candidly only on the condition of anonymity. "That process is being repeated all over."
HOLY SHIT! SERIOUSLY?!? So, what you're telling me... is that... in a nation that has one of the deepest binding religions as its fundamental religious belief, you probably should have considered that they might want to include that into their way of life, but didn't? So now, you're kinda fucked?
Hmm. Interesting. You know, I would never have fucking thought of that. Who would have guessed that they might want to do things their own way?
All this on the eve of some "crazy lady's" non-violent, anti-war peace movement.
It's no wonder the (Far Right) Republicans are running around scared shitless.
You guys were wrong. You always were wrong. And none of you are going to admit it, will you?
=MEMO TO THE NEO-CONS=
Stop trying to run a country.
Stop trying to run the world.
Just stop.
It's about time you let the people who know what they're doing do their job and try to fix your mess before you make things worse.
Also, all Neo-Con talking heads? Your opinions and faux "reporting" are now nul and void. In the words of the "Great" (snicker) William O'Reilly: Shut the fuck up.

If you want to get riled up about something how about softwood lumber? This is at least something that the US might actually be able to fix :) I doubt they want to repay 5 billion dollars to our softwood industry but hey, it's worth a shot.
In Iraq, they will never in a million years admit defeat, stupidity, being in the wrong, or simply that is was a mistake...it's gone too far and now they have no choice but to stick it out until the bitter end (if it ever ends) - in the back of my mind the words, where to next, keeping popping up - Iran anyone? So while their own troops are dying, democracy is not flourishing in the Middle East, and the Iraqi people suffer...the US will march on and march over new people.
Honestly, I think it would be worse if the US were to pull out now - they went in there fucked up the country, they can't politely exit without trying everything to establish some order there. Of course on the other hand the reason American troops keep getting blown up is because they are occupying an independent country - they're fucked if they do and fucked if they don't...and since, to my knowledge the Bush administration has not invented a time machine, they can't undo their biggest mistake yet...but they can spin it, make up news and hope no one notices. I think this is working out perfectly for them...no one's caught on yet - at least not the voters ;)

Too bad Bush is working on installing himself as President-for-Life.
Heh...this gave me a really funny thought. Check my next journal entry for said thought.
